Automation of the mold warehouse for a new technological line in the sanitary industry
A company in the sanitary industry is currently constructing a new production line capable of manufacturing short series of products, including individual elements.
As a result, the production process will involve dynamic introduction and removal of molds within approximately 70 seconds. These molds will vary in size, with dimensions of up to 2500x1500x70 mm and a weight of up to 500 kilograms.
The variability and dynamics of the production process require the implementation of a robust IT system to manage it efficiently. Consequently, the decision was made to incorporate a mold warehouse as a significant component of the production line. The warehouse's tasks include issuing, receiving, and storing molds.
The task of designing, constructing, implementing, and integrating the mold warehouse was entrusted to MPL TECHMA.
To address the challenge, the project team developed an automated mold storage warehouse. Due to the specific dimensions and weight of the stored molds, it was decided to place them in standardized containers. The warehouse structure was adapted to spatial requirements in the production hall and integrated with the production line, catering to the dynamic production demands. Loading tools were also developed, and the stacker crane and its carriage were adjusted to facilitate mold storage in the warehouse. Efficient management of mold storage and flow was achieved through software development, and integration with the production line's IT system was established.
Thanks to the automated mold warehouse, the sanitary company gains numerous benefits that are crucial to its operations.
First and foremost, the new solution enables the client to easily adapt production to various orders, including short product series and individual elements. Swift response to changing market needs becomes possible, enhancing the company's competitiveness.
Another aspect is the optimization of storage flow. The mold warehouse was designed to efficiently store and handle molds of different sizes and weights. This ensures a more efficient mold storage process, minimizing the risk of damages and production bottlenecks. All molds are placed in standardized containers, simplifying warehouse organization.
Integrated production management is also of great importance. The developed software for managing mold storage and flow is fully integrated with the IT system managing the production line. This allows for comprehensive monitoring and control over the production process, enabling quick decision-making and process optimization. The integration of IT systems enhances production efficiency and contributes to better financial outcomes.
